Top 5 from the good food and wine show, Sydney.

05 Jul

The Good food and wine show is one of my favourite days of the year. I was so excited this morning I was running through the car park giggling. I put an alarm on my phone so I would know the day tickets went on sale and when that day came in February I was happy to score 2nd row seats for Matt Moran. Last year we saw Pete Evans at 9.30am and it was so crowded when the show finished so this year we thought we’d get there early and go to a later show and this worked out heaps better. Being the last day of the show alot of people had specials on their showbags, some offering two for $10. I ended up with about 10 showbags. We had to make a few trips back to the car to drop them off. Opening them all up and lining up everything on our coffee table (1st picture) was a great way to end the day. You can see the little LG teatowel on the bottom right of the photo. I caught that at the beginning of the show by the ends of my fingertips. Not as great a prize as the cookware and wine that other people won but hey at least I won something.

Well I lost count of how many different chocolates, wines, nuts, muesli’s, cheeses, chai tea and liqueurs’s I tried but I have selected the following as my top 5 new products of the day.

Number 1: Ayam Sago dessert

This easy to make Malaysian dessert is a taste sensation. You simply have to add some coconut milk and chill for 10 mins.

Number 2: Butlers hot chocolate drink

This is a box of 10 chocolates that melt when added to hot milk. Divine!

Number 3: Bill’s Beetroot marmalade

This is from a Tasmanian guy called Bill. He served this with some Salmon and it was sooooo tasty. He gave me a lil flyer that also suggests having it with Pork chops, rocket and goats’ cheese salad and lamb parcels. I will probably regret not getting the larger bottle. Check out his website http://www.tgkitchen.com/

Number 4: Amoy’s Shrimp Shamoi & Hargow

I am still craving dim sims since Yum Cha last Sunday. These lil beauty’s are a taste sensation and are super easy to make. 1.5 minutes in the microwave if you are too impatient to wait for the steamer basket. I got 4 packs for $10 and will probably regret not getting more of these too. I hope I find a stockist close to me.

Number 5: Red quinoa

The new superfood. I haven’t tasted this yet but since I know it has more protein than any other grain I have a feeling it’s going to be great. I have tried white quinoa before and it was really easy to make, pretty much just like cous cous. I was also given some recipes so I will make another post when I try making sweet quinoa which is like porridge.

There was heaps of other things I tried today that I didn’t buy coz they had sold out, but now I know that Market Pride Silver Warehou & Atlantic Salmon fish cakes are sold in DJ’s so I will have to buy some soon. There was also a really tasty berry muesli I got from a lady in the Blue Mountains. Definately worth mentioning. One of the fun surprises we got was the chocolate and strawberry milk flavouring straws. Wish these were around when we were kids. Well it’s time to get the kitchen reno done so we have somewhere to store all of our purchases.

RED QUINOA ROCKS! Its super good for you too and has a richer flavour than white. and you can subsitute it any where that you usually would have pasta or rice also for the same carb value but a bucket load more protein. LOVE the blog Anita – keep them coming!! h x
